We organize publicly available licensing data (license status, bond information, workers' compensation coverage, and disciplinary history) into a searchable directory that subcontractors, suppliers, and project owners can access in seconds.

The platform was built by licensed contractors who have spent years working on commercial construction projects across California. We've worked alongside ENR-ranked general contractors, managed multi-trade coordination on tenant improvement and ground-up projects, and dealt firsthand with the compliance paperwork that every subcontractor faces on every job: preliminary notices, lien waivers, certified mail receipts, and deadline tracking.

We built Prelien because the information was always public but never accessible. The CSLB maintains records on hundreds of thousands of active licensees, but accessing that data means navigating a government portal that returns limited results, requires specific formatting, and offers no way to assess a contractor's overall compliance posture at a glance.

We believed that data should be easier to find, easier to read, and connected to the compliance actions that follow, like sending a preliminary notice or verifying workers' compensation before signing a subcontract.
